Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. (Psalm 107:1)
We may box our God up sometimes, and associate His goodness according to what we get in life. If I do well in studies, God is faithful. If I din't get the promotion, God has forgotten about me. If I'm stuck in a bad place, God has forsaken me. However, the Psalms reminds us that God's goodness is not that narrow and upon reflection, He has indeed come through for me in my life.
The Psalms did not say "Give thanks to the Lord, for he has blessed you with a high paying job". Instead, His love and faithfulness endures forever, in all circumstances. I learnt that we want so much for God to meet our expectations, without realising He wants to exceed them, by shaping us to be better versions of ourselves. Having the assurance that He wants the best for me, it became clearer for me to identify God's blessings even in difficult times, which brings much peace.
God, forgive me for limiting your goodness, sometimes tying it to superficial and material things. Thank you for always standing by me, through it all, and help me to see your goodness and blessings everyday. Amen.
