He changes times and seasons; He deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. (Daniel 2:21)
On Monday, our nation's leaders addressed us with the latest decisions and plans in tackling the spread of the virus. The verse in Daniel reminds of how God chooses our leaders and imparts them with knowledge and wisdom through the seasons. Here, the wise and discerning do not only refer to our government, but also us as citizens, how we can do our part in enabling our government's plans to be a success.
Press conferences by the government are always accompanied with different reactions from people with different agendas. Some will support and some will oppose. Some will spread their own brand of opinions and news. Let us make wise choices and be discerning, in the news we read and the rumours we hear. It is important during such times that we do not just go along being mindlessly critical of the government, but to give credit where credit is due, and to wisely discern the impact of the decisions made.
Father Lord, we ask that you grant wisdom to our key decision-makers, as they make huge decisions with life and death implications. We pray for your protection and power over our civil servants, healthcare workers and frontliners, that they may efficiently execute the safety measures nationwide. In Jesus' name, Amen.
