Our Future Self

Scripture

Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. (1 John 3:2)

Observation

Becoming like Jesus often reminds me of the photos on our passport that needs changing because it no longer reflects our current look. Considering our Christian life, our outward look may not change, but our inward person must definitely change because there is transformational power in Jesus. The Scriptures tell us that from the moment God began knitting us together in the womb (Psalm 139), we have been growing into our unique design. We know that if we are children of God, we will ultimately be like Jesus. This likeness includes our body with His nature and our personality with His character, changing to be a better person Jesus wants us to be.

Application

Until the day Jesus returns, we’re being drawn toward this future self. By His work, step by step, we can reflect His image ever more clearly (2 Cor 3:18). We are not yet who we are meant to be. Our best in Jesus is yet to come!

Prayer

Jesus, make me more and more like You today and every day.
