Scripture
Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his laws day and night. (Psalm 1:1-2)
Observation
This Psalm shows that there is a certain progression in how people are led to wicked deeds. It starts with an exposure to bad advice, which influences the listener, who is then misguided and misinformed by those with sinister intent. This lands the person in the company and activities of the wicked.
These two verses can almost be read in parallel with Matthew 7:24, "Everyone who practices these words of mine is like a wise man who built his house on the rock".
Application
These passages often become our constant guide in bringing up our children because we often ask what or who will influence their lives most. Parents need to be aware of what our children are reading and hearing and with whom they are interacting with, both online and in person.
Prayer
Teach us as adults to offer our role as earthly guardians and shepherd and to intentionally engage the younger generation (Proverbs 22:6).
