​Prayer for The Broken-hearted

Scripture

​

The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. (Psalm 34:18)

 

Observation

​

This week, we are reminded of the brevity of life, and how fleeting life can be. The whole nation was shocked by the news of how the life of a 13 year-old River Valley High School student was suddenly taken away. Times like these also invite speculations on social media, and fingers pointing at various authorities. Instead of speculating and reacting in anger, can we instead spend some moments to mourn and pray? As we take time to pray, we are reminded of what the families of the victims need the most, and our Lord prioritizes and provides for that, in healing and comforting them, by being close to them.

Application

We may not know those who are affected by the incident, but our hearts and minds can remain close to them, by praying for them. Let's not forget that the attacker is also a victim, and family members of the attacker do not wish for this and are also suffering. Let us include them in our prayers as well and gather together to pray the prayer below.

Prayer

 

Dear Heavenly Father, we pray for peace and comfort for those grieving. May your comforting hands be upon them, removing fear and trauma arising from the incident. Lord, we pray for wisdom for the school authorities handling this matter. They very much need your love and care as well. Not only do they need time and space to mourn as well, but they have to put up a strong front to provide leadership, restore trust and give assurances to parents. We also pray for compassion and love among our citizens as they allow privacy and space for grieving parties. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
