Treatment of Others

Scripture

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets

(Matthew 7:12)

 

Observation

​

Jesus taught the golden rule here that there will be repercussions with the actions in how we treat others. The expectation of how you wish to be treated will be directly dependent on how we treat others. If you expect others to honor you, you first need also to honor others. Under normal inter-personal relationship principles, this verse is logical and appropriate. But Jesus' radical teaching is more than that. Jesus taught with authority about living a selfless life, about loving and considering others better than ourselves.

Application

I recognise the measuring yardstick in Matthew 7:12 to be my principle throughout my interaction with others. I will learn how to first give up my own rights so that others could be honored.

Prayer

 

Lord, help me to treat others well, just like treating myself well. Before I react negatively to others, show me my own shortcomings too. Change my attitude that I may be more like Jesus. Amen.
